New Ferry-Boat for Ruhnu Line30.08.2010
The Estonian Maritime Administration announced a public procurement to acquire a new vessel to be used to connect the island of Ruhnu with the mainland. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, an aluminium catamaran passenger ferry with a deadweight of up to 5 tonnes that can carry at least 60 passengers is needed. The ferry will have a length of 23-26 m, a width of up to 9 m, maximum draft 1.8 m, and a speed of at least 20 knots. The new vessel shall be owned by the state, and an operator shall be found through a public competition. The MA plans to sign a contract for the construction of the vessel at the end of this year and have the ferry in regular operation on the Ruhnu line by spring 2012. The cost will be covered entirely by the European Regional Development Fund.

The MA has published a new edition of List of Lights in Estonian Waters, containing information on the fixed and floating aids to navigation located in Estonian waters and on the coast as of 01 June 2010. The technical description of the aids to navigation listed (name, location, coordinates, light characteristics, height from sea level, visibility and description) is given in Estonian and English, and the text is illustrated with photographs. This publication can be purchased directly from the MA at 4 Valge Street (additional information: +372 620 5645, +372 620 5649) or from the distributors of the MA navigational charts. The full database of aids to navigation is available on the MA homepage (http://195.50.203.61/SLAID1EN.HTM).
