Public Procurement Announced to Acquire Ferry-Boat for Abruka Line

Today, on 16 February 2012, the Estonian Maritime Administration announced a public procurement for acquiring a ferry-boat to service the island of Abruka. The deadline for submitting tenders is 9 April 2012.

The passenger ferry is needed to provide regular service between the small island Abruka and Roomassaare Harbour in the island of Saaremaa. The vessel shall be able to move in level ice of 5 cm thick, but the hull shall be strong enough for an ice sheet of 10-15 cm of level ice; it shall comply with the requirements for class D vessels designed for near-coastal voyages. It shall carry up to 24 passengers, or 12 passengers if deck-loaded with 3.5 t of cargo.
The project will be financed entirely by the European Regional Development Fund, but the total cost of the newbuild will be announced after the contract is signed. The ferry will be ordered within the framework of the project “Acquiring vessels for the provision of a connection with small islands”.
