Vessel Traffic Temporarily Closed in Väinameri

On the basis of § 45 (5) of the Maritime Safety Act, § 10 of Regulation No. 106 of 21 April 2004 (“Requirements concerning the construction, management and the state of winter roads”) by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, and an application by the Estonian Road Administration submitted on 09 February 2012, the Director General of the MA has issued a directive temporarily closing vessel traffic due to the planning of winter roads connecting the West Estonian islands and the mainland.

As of 16 February 2012, no vessel traffic is allowed in the Väinameri area north of the Virtsu-Kuivastu route, south of the Rohuküla-Heltermaa route and east of the Sõru-Triigi route; and in the sea area in the Gulf of Riga along the Munalaid-Kihnu waterway.
